Cootehill
in County Cavan is one of Ireland’s premier angling centers.
Every year it becomes home base for hundreds of satisfied anglers. The
quality of fishing is no secret and there are many features in and
around Cootehill, which will both surprise and entertain our visitors. Set in idyllic surroundings, Cootehill lakes attract not only anglers,
but other visitors and sports enthusiasts. Wooded hillsides provide
a perfect backdrop in which to reflect on peace, tranquillity and
the leisurely pace of life in Cootehill.
Cootehill
was founded in 1700 by Thomas Coote who was married to Frances Hill,
daughter of the Marquess of Downshire, Hillsborough, Co. Down and the town contains their names. The ancestral home of
the Coote family, Bellamont House, is an excellent example of a
Palladian style mansion.
